What is Timed Advance?

What is Timed Advance?

Timed Advance lets Linus move forward after a set amount of time instead of listening for a cue word.

Normally, in Run Lines and Self Tape, Linus listens for your cue word so it knows when to move forward. With Timed Advance, Linus follows the timing you set for that line instead.

Written steps

  1. Open your scene.
  2. Tap Run Lines from the Scene Menu.
  3. Find the line you want to adjust.
  4. Tap the three dots beside the line.
  5. Tap Timed Advance.
  6. Press and hold the centre timing button while you say the line.
  7. Release the button when you finish speaking.
  8. Tap Save.

Linus will now wait for the saved amount of time before moving forward on that line.

When should I use Timed Advance?

Use Timed Advance if:

  • the line is only one or two words
  • Linus keeps getting stuck on the same line
  • changing the cue word has not helped
  • the cue word is difficult to detect
  • you want the timing to be the same every time

What does Timed Advance do?

Timed Advance tells Linus:

“After this amount of time, move to the next line.”

It does not rely on speech recognition for that line.

Does Timed Advance work in Self Tape?

Yes.

If you set Timed Advance for a line in Run Lines, that timing will also be used in Self Tape.

When should I avoid Timed Advance?

Timed Advance is less useful for lines where your timing changes a lot.

For monologues or longer emotional lines, try changing the cue word first. Choose a word slightly earlier in the line so Linus can still respond to your performance.
