Run Lines
How can I use Linus to learn a monologue or longer chunk of text?
Important note
This is an advanced workaround for longer pieces of text.
If your monologue is already broken into smaller lines, you may not need to do this. But if Linus has imported the whole monologue as one long block, splitting it into smaller chunks can make it easier to learn.
To break a long monologue into smaller chunks
- Open your scene.
- Tap Run Lines from the Scene Menu.
- Find the monologue or long block of text.
- Tap the three dots beside that line.
- Tap Edit Line.
- Tap inside the dialogue box.
- Select the text and tap Copy.
- Save or close the line.
- Tap the three dots beside the same line again.
- Tap Add Below.
- Tap Add Line Below.
- Paste the copied monologue text.
- Delete the parts you do not want in this first chunk.
- Leave only the first section you want to learn.
- Tap Add Line.
- Repeat the process for the next chunk of text.
After you’ve split the monologue
Once your monologue is broken into smaller sections, you can use:
Line Stacking
Use Line Stacking to build the monologue section by section.
Loop
Use Loop to repeat a selected section until it feels comfortable.
Start and end points
Use start and end points if you only want to work on one part of the monologue.
When should I use this?
Use this approach when:
- a monologue has imported as one long line
- a large block of dialogue feels hard to learn
- you want to break the text into smaller thoughts
- you want to use Line Stacking on smaller sections
- you want to loop one part of a monologue at a time
